This document covers the iPhone app. For this website and the former launch-email list, read the website privacy information.

Transcribe Audio to Text · Effective 25 October 2026

The short version

  • Your audio, transcripts and everything the app writes from them stay on your iPhone. We never receive them.
  • Transcription runs on your iPhone and needs no internet.
  • There is no account, no sign-in and no advertising. The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
  • The app sends two kinds of information over the internet: usage statistics (which features are used, never what you said), and the feedback you choose to send.
  • If you buy Unlimited, Apple handles the payment. We receive no payment details, and the app does not need your name, email or Apple Account.
  • Usage statistics are on until you switch them off in Settings.

Who is responsible

Transcribe Audio to Text ("we", "us") is responsible for the information described in this policy and publishes Transcribe Audio to Text ("the app"). You can reach us at devjakobsen@gmail.com.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything you make with the app is stored only on your iPhone:

  • recordings you make, and the audio of files and videos you bring in (from a video, the app keeps only the audio)
  • the file name of an imported file, and the transcripts, edits and results written from them
  • your settings, such as sort order and your analytics choice
  • whether you have Unlimited, and how many of your free minutes you have used

We cannot see any of this and do not receive a copy. If you delete a transcript, the app removes it and its audio from the app. If you delete the app, this data is removed with it. Your iPhone may include the app's data in your own device or iCloud backups; that is controlled by your device settings, not by us.

The app asks for the microphone only to record when you tap Record. It reads a file or video only when you pick it from Files or Photos.

Where the work happens

  • Transcription happens on your iPhone, inside the app. No audio or text is sent anywhere to do it.
  • Optional writing tools (such as summaries, highlights, chapters, clean reads and titles) also run on your iPhone, on the devices that support them. We do not receive what they write.

Anything your iPhone's system does under Apple's own terms and privacy policy is separate from this policy.

Your recordings and transcripts

You decide what to record, import, transcribe and share. We do not review or approve your recordings or the text generated from them. You are responsible for having the rights and any consent needed to record, transcribe and share the content.

Transcripts and other generated results can be inaccurate. You are responsible for checking them before relying on, publishing or sharing them.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for unlawful or infringing content you choose to record or import, or for how you use or share recordings, transcripts or other results. The Terms and Conditions explain acceptable use, accuracy and the limits of liability. This does not exclude our responsibilities for personal information we process or any rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Usage statistics

Usage statistics are switched on when you first open the app, and you can switch them off at any time. To help us see which features are used and which fail, the app sends short usage events through Google's Firebase Analytics.

What an event contains. The name of what happened and a few coarse details, for example: that the tour was finished, that a recording or a transcription started, finished, failed or was stopped, roughly how long it was (a range such as "5 to 15 minutes", never the exact length), how long you waited (also a range), whether it was a recording, audio file or video, the language code the model heard (for example "da"), which kind of result was created, which export format was used, or which page of this app was opened.

What an event never contains. Audio, transcript text, titles, file names, your feedback message, your email address, your name, your location or your contacts. The app never sets a user ID or user properties, and it turns off advertising features.

What Google collects automatically. Firebase Analytics also records basic information such as a random identifier for this installation of the app (not your name or your advertising ID), the app version, iOS version, device model, language and region setting, when the app was first opened and used, and a rough location (country or region) worked out from your internet connection. Google says it uses this connection information for that purpose and does not store the full address.

What we do not do. The app does not use the advertising identifier, does not ask for permission to track you, and does not use Firebase for advertising, crash reports or push messages.

Your choice. Usage statistics are on until you turn them off. Open Settings in the app and switch off "Share usage statistics". The app then stops sending events and tells Firebase to stop collecting. You can switch it back on at any time.

Legal basis. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding which features are used and in finding and fixing problems (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time by switching the statistics off in Settings.

Who receives it, and for how long. Google (Google Ireland Limited, with Google LLC and its affiliates) processes the events for us. Event data is kept in our Firebase project for no longer than 14 months. Google may process data outside the European Economic Area, relying on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Purchases and Unlimited

Unlimited is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your card or payment details, your name, your email address or your Apple Account from Apple, and the app has no account and no server of ours. The app asks the App Store, on your iPhone, whether your Apple Account has Unlimited, and keeps a small note on the iPhone (that Unlimited was bought) so that it keeps working without an internet connection. The count of your free minutes is also kept only on your iPhone.

If usage statistics are on, the app may record that the purchase screen was opened (and whether it was because the free minutes ran out), that a purchase or a restore was started, completed, cancelled, failed or is waiting for approval. It never records a price, an amount, a transaction number or anything about your Apple Account.

Sending feedback

Settings has a feedback form. Nothing is sent unless you press Send.

What is sent: the category you choose (idea, problem or other), the message you write, your email address only if you add one, the app version and build, the iOS version, the iPhone model, your language and region setting, and the time.

What is never sent: recordings, transcripts, titles or file names. Please do not put sensitive information in your message.

The message goes over an encrypted (https) connection to a message inbox that we operate in a team messaging or workflow service. We use it to read your feedback and, if you left an email address, to reply. We keep feedback no longer than 24 months. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app and answering you (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)); if you add an email address, you are asking us to reply to it.

Sharing

We do not sell your information and do not share it for advertising. The only recipients are Google (usage statistics) and the service that receives your feedback, both acting for us, Apple for purchases you make with Apple (under Apple's own policy), and anyone we are legally required to inform.

Your rights

Under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation you can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. You can withdraw any consent at any time. Because usage events use a random installation identifier and not your name, we may need you to tell us how to find your feedback (for example the email address you used) before we can act on a request. Deleting the app ends further collection from that installation.

To use these rights, write to devjakobsen@gmail.com. If you think we handle your information wrongly, you can complain to Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency) (https://www.datatilsynet.dk) or to the data protection authority in your own country.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us feedback, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Audio and transcripts stay on your iPhone, protected by iOS. Feedback and usage events travel over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but the app avoids collecting what it does not need.

Changes

We may update this policy, for example when the app changes what it collects. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell you in the app when a change is important.
